Jumbalayah

After leaving The HiLites I was entering my senior year in high school and becoming a bit of a left wing politico. I thought to myself "no more bands"
--in my mind, that was it for me and music. I had other plans.

Well a year later in college I found myself hooked up with guitarst
Corky Tanassy and drummer Paul Comstock. I thought they were great players. I looked up to them very much for their musical ability plus our friendship was very strong. They wanted me to play with them so I hung in there. It made sense to keep playing. After all the music was a strong force in the tone of everything that was happening at that time. Four years later
when we graduated we formed Jumbalayah, a hard rock band playing
Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Who, ZZ Top, etc.

We played lots of backyard parties in Ocean Beach in the early to mid 70's. A bit later we became established in the local clubs--Ledbetter's and
Neutral Ground. This period 1974-76 was the school of hard knocks
combined with the motivational fuel of realizing we were succeeding
at playing music for a living.
