Musicians Gallery
Back in April 1998 I had the rare and exciting opportunity of
staying with bluesman Willie King at his home in Alabama.
My guitar student and friend Joel Beeson had known Willie from living in Birmingham
and said let's go for a visit.
Willie lives in a small rural community called Old Memphis. It's so close to
the Mississippi state line that some of the locals say
"you wake up in Alabama and eat breakfast in Mississippi."
Each morning his neighbor Mimie would fix us eggs, grits and biscuits and tell
us wonderful old stories.
During our five day visit we cruised around, talked, played music, performed
in Tuscaloosa, AL and Sandyland, MS.
Most memorible was performing a juke joint in Mississippi and meeting some of
the most wonderful people who
welcomed and accepted us with open hearts.
